Holiday Skate With The Lakers Dec. 10 To Support United Way

The community is invited to an open skate with the Oswego State men’s and women’s hockey teams for Holiday Skate with the Lakers, 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 10, in Marano Campus Center arena to benefit the local United Way. The annual event will feature holiday music, a visit by Santa Claus, a hockey jersey raffle and concessions provided by Auxiliary Services. Laker hockey players will skate with participants and provide autographs.

How Lake Ontario’s Shape Generates Local, Persistent Snowstorms

Researchers, including the University of Utah’s Jim Steenburgh and University of Wyoming’s Bart Geerts, have now found that these intense snowstorms are fueled by a well-organized air circulation driven by the heat released by the lake, and that the shape of Lake Ontario affects the formation and location of this circulation, and thus the heaviest lake-effect snow.

Catholic Charities Hosts Open House, Welcomes Bishop Cunningham, Many Visitors

Catholic Charities of Oswego County hosted an open house Nov. 9 that featured a blessing by Most Rev. Robert J. Cunningham, Bishop of the Diocese of Syracuse, a ribbon cutting, and a throng of visitors curious to see the new location. Mary-Margaret Pekow, executive director, said, “The turnout was heartwarming, and our staff was extremely proud to host tours and show off out beautiful new facility.”
