At Mexico Elementary School, students and staff members embody the school district’s core belief that the school is the heart of the community. Love for one another, kindness and compassion have always been integral parts of the school so when Hurricane Harvey recently destroyed people’s lives, homes and hope, Mexico Elementary students stepped up to lend a helping hand and open their hearts.
The Hannibal Historical Society will sponsor Hannibal History Day on October 14 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Hannibal Community Center on Oswego Street. On that date, the society will introduce a self-guided walking tour of the village of Hannibal.
Karrie Damm, executive director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County, announced that Connie Dumas has been named the Outreach and Prevention Advocate for the CAC. A new position for the CAC, the outreach and prevention advocate will work closely with CAC partner agencies regarding best practices for the community prevention of child abuse and fatalities.
The Fulton Junior High School open house was a huge success. Principal Chris Leece introduced himself and Assistant Principal Debbie Stuetz before he told seventh and eighth grade families how encouraged he was by their attendance at the event.
Cayuga Community College officials are pleased to announce that the ribbon cutting for the Occupational Therapy Assistants Lab on the Fulton campus, 11 River Glen Drive, has been scheduled for September 27 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place right outside the OTA Lab for the ribbon cutting, followed by a tour of the facility.
Rachael Purtell of Minetto, is on the women’s soccer team for the 2017 season. First-year coach Mike Eckberg will help guide the Hawks to a bounce-back season after they finished 1-15-2 last fall.
Any residents of Oswego that would like to make their food dollars go farther may order October Food Sense packages until noon on October 13. All Oswego area residents may use the program. There are no income limitations and no restrictions on the number of items one may buy.

The Oswego City School District on Tuesday honored two members of the Buc Boosters and recognized all “parents and advocates across the district” for their efforts to fund and support athletic and extracurricular activities.
Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, freshmen and sophomores only have been scheduled every other day with the 40-minute Seminar course, which seeks to build relationships between teachers and students, personalize student education, further develop students’ soft skills and create a structured, supportive environment.
