Local Residents Enroll at RIT For 2017-2018 School Year

Upstate Medical University students gained a better perspective on how medical care is delivered in a rural community, as part of a Rural Education Medical Program, which local healthcare providers recently hosted. Spending five days exploring rural medicine and Oswego County itself were five, second year medical students.
The Oswego County Office for the Aging is sponsoring a new program to provide a Project Lifesaver tracking device to adults with dementia disorders. The Office for the Aging will cover the cost for the first year of a Project Lifesaver unit to people who meet the program guidelines.
The tradition, which has occurred on the last school day of the year for more than 40 years, has served as an opportunity for students to thank teachers and staff members for helping them reach and exceed academic, social and/or behavioral goals.
The 31st annual Canal Days brought students back in time to the 1800s and early 1900s, where they learned about local history, the canal system, recreational activities and tools that were used in that era.
As John C. Birdlebough High School seniors prepare for the next chapter of their lives, many received a financial boost during the annual scholarship and awards night. The Phoenix chapter of Dollars for Scholars presented more than $46,000 in scholarships to members of the graduating class.
The 2017 John C. Birdlebough High School commencement ceremony marked a milestone for all graduates and it served as an especially memorable experience for Ryan Luke and Breanna Backus. Seated among their classmates during the ceremony, their names were announced as the recipients of the Robert and Roberta Hurd Scholarship.
The soon-to-be freshmen were celebrated during FJHS’ recent 8th Grade Awards and Moving Up Ceremony where dozens of students were honored with various accolades for their academic, social and behavioral accomplishments during their final year of middle school.
The Cornerstone Club will offer members a place to socialize and take part in activities with staff available to provide supervision, health and nutrition monitoring, all in a safe location that is easily accessible to the community. The social adult day club will be located at the newly renovated Catholic Charities site at 808 W. Broadway (State Route 3) in the city of Fulton, and serve the entire county.
One lucky winner of a raffle to take place during this year’s Harborfest will receive the opportunity to explore Dominica, dubbed the “Nature Island” of the Caribbean, and one of the ultimate destinations for eco-tourism.
