Oswego County Opportunities’ Services to Aid Families, the domestic violence and rape crisis response program for Oswego County, reminds everyone that February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.
More than 60 Ithaca College students were honored with the Peggy R. Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership, an award recognizing students who excel academically, perform service to the college community and nation, and represent an exemplary level of accomplishment.
At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Thom Lynch was inducted as a member. Lynch, employed with Navigant in Boulder, Colorado, is an energy consultant for electrical utilities.
The Oswego Sunrise Rotary Club recently welcomed Assistant District Governor for District #7150 Jenny Doane. She discussed Rotary initiatives for the upcoming year at the district, national and international levels.
The Foster-Adoptive Recruitment Team at Oswego County Department of Social Services is searching for caring, compassionate people to provide shelter for dozens of children in foster care. “At any given time, there are up to 60 children in foster care and less than half of the teens in care have the option of residing in a local foster home,” said Stacy Alvord, commissioner of Oswego County DSS.
Executive Director of United Way of Greater Oswego County Patrick Dewine met with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Regional President Jim Reed recently.
Applications for the PreK Program are now available. This program is designed for children who were born between December 2, 2012 and December 1, 2013 and is offered at no cost. Children are selected by lottery.
Head Start, a Pre-K program with Oswego County Opportunities, will be accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year. Head Start provides a quality pre-kindergarten program for income eligible 3- and 4-year-old children in eight locations throughout the county.
Headlining the fifth anniversary of live theatre at CNY Arts Center, Godspell will open February 17 and run through February 26. The popular musical commemorates the Arts Center’s first musical presented onstage in 2012 but will deliver many new faces plus a new set design.
For nearly 50 years, the Fulton Noon Rotary Club has hosted a high school foreign exchange student for the school year. The students arrive in mid August and return home by August first the next year. The students are ages 16 to 18 years old and are usually in their last year of high school in their home country.
