Major General Patrick A. Murphy, the Adjutant General, announces the recent reenlistment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their continuing commitment to serve community, state and nation as part of the Army National Guard.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County in collaboration with Oswego County Soil and Water, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the United State Department Of Agriculture Farm Service Agency will sponsor a workshop for agriculture producers on how each of these agencies can assist them when everything doesn’t go to plan.

Hundreds of community members filled the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center to enjoy some hot wings and cold brews at the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County’s third annual Chicken Wing and Micro-Brew Fest. The event raised more than $15,000 to help support the agency’s efforts to combat and prevent child abuse in Oswego County.

The Zonta Club of Oswego is partnering with Girl Scouts from NYPENN Pathways to host a celebration of International Women’s Day at the SUNY Oswego Newman Center on March 8 at 3 p.m. International Women’s Day is a global celebration of women’s achievements throughout history and across nations.

“This year’s theme is the ‘OCO Retro Bowl’ said OCO Executive Director Diane Cooper-Currier. “We’re going to celebrate highlights from OCO’s history during each decade since the agency was established on March 15, 1966.”

The Oswego County Legislature’s Government, Courts and Consumer Affairs Committee presented Charles Fadden with a certificate of appreciation for his 27 years of service. He recently retired from his position as a senior tax map technician with Oswego County Real Property Tax Services.

The Oswego County Department of Social Services will sponsor an informational meeting from  6 to 8 p.m. March 6, at the Department of Social Services, 100 Spring St., Mexico, for people who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents.

On Valentine’s Day, kindergarteners at Lura M. Sharp Elementary attended a royal ball in their gymnasium. The ball was a culminating activity for their unit on King’s and Queens. In the unit, kindergarteners learned about tradition and objects used by royalty. Each student came to the ball with a crown.
