Humans, Canines Share Good Time At Fallbrook

From the wag of a tail, to barking, various dogs and their owners participated in the 12th annual Rover Run 5k and family fun day on Sunday at SUNY Oswego’s Fallbrook Recreation Center. The Oswego County Humane Society has hosted the event since 2004. It’s a great opportunity for dogs to get to know each other and have fun, the organizers said. Joanne Piersma, a director at the Oswego County Humane Society said that the event was a good representation of the values the humane society wants to instill in the community.

Constantia Man Arrested For Falsely Reporting a Crime

State Police arrested Leonard J. Graumenz, 59, from 357 County Route 23 in Constantia, for Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree and Falsely Reporting a Crime, both class “A” misdemeanors. On Saturday, he went to a neighbor’s house with one handcuff attached to his wrist and told her that he crashed his truck and as a State Trooper was trying to arrest him, that he shot the Trooper, police said.

Councilors Eye Streamlining Property Disposition Policy

At Tuesday’s Administrative Services Committee meeting Councilor Nathan Emmons, through Kevin Caraccioli, City Attorney, requested consideration from the Common Council to approve a Property Disposition Policy and Procedure for city-owned real estate. There is a policy in place, but it generally pertains to foreclosed property, he explained. The new policy would revise the way in which the city may come into ownership of a property, while refining the manner of disposing of such properties.

Samples of mosquitoes that could carry the EEE virus are sent to the state Department of Health laboratory every week during the summer and tested to see if the EEE virus is present in Oswego County.

Mosquito Population Has Declined But EEE, WNV Still Present In Oswego County

The latest test results of mosquito samples collected near the Toad Harbor and Big Bay Swamp areas show that EEE and WNV are still present in the environment, Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang said today (Sept. 7). He Huang said the mosquito population has declined significantly since aerial spraying was conducted Aug. 28. However, spraying doesn’t eliminate all mosquitoes that carry the viruses, and people should remain vigilant in using insecticides and taking steps to prevent mosquito bites.

Oswego Students Return To The Classroom

Hundreds of students returned to the classroom Wednesday in the Oswego City School District. The high school offered “Freshman First Day” on Wednesday. Grades 10-12 will officially kick off the new academic year on Thursday. “I asked a student if he had a good day. He said, ‘No, I had a Great Day!’ He may not have realized it but he made my day feel that way too,” one principal said.

As the Oswego City School District opened its doors today (Sept. 6) for the 2017-18 school year, Oswego High School welcomed the newest members of its student population for the second annual “Freshman First” day. Designed to ease ninth grade Buccaneers into the rigors of high school, Freshman First day gives members of the Class of 2021 the campus of OHS to themselves one day before the rest of the students arrive.

Oswego Council To Explore Parking Policy Options

Just as certain that it’s going to snow during the winter in the Port City, the Common Council will continue to wrangle with the winter parking policy. For nearly an hour Tuesday night, the Planning and Development Committee discussed the pros and cons of possible winter parking scenarios. At the end, they agreed to form a committee to facilitate the creation of a policy that benefits city residents and ensures the safety of the plow operators.
