Oswego County Hospice Program Ranks Among Top 5% in the Nation

Oswego County Hospice has recently received the “Best Hospice Caregiver Satisfaction Award” for its ranking in the top 5 percent in the Strategic Healthcare Programs’ national Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems hospice survey benchmark. The program acknowledges hospice providers that consistently provide high quality service to families and caregivers of patients receiving hospice care. Award recipients are determined by their rankings among more than 1,500 hospice providers throughout the nation.

Families Can Plan For Disasters During National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month, and it’s a good time for families to prepare for any kind of emergency or disaster. “If you’ve seen the news lately, you know that an emergency can happen unexpectedly in communities like ours, to people like us,” said Dale A. Currier, director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office. “In addition to what we see happening across the country, New York State has had 11 confirmed tornadoes this year, according to the National Weather Service.”

State Police Announce Participation in ‘Drunk Driving, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Crackdown

The New York State Police will again participate in a national crackdown, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign this Labor Day weekend. The enforcement period runs through Monday, September 4. Labor Day weekend traditionally results in heavy traffic volumes throughout the state. Unfortunately, this increased flow of traffic brings with it increased accidents, serious injuries and fatalities.

Gillibrand, Katko Renew Push For Legislation To Begin Process Of Making Fort, Safe Haven A National Park

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Representative John Katko today (August 31) visited the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum. The pair has introduced legislation that would authorize the National Park Service to conduct a study on whether the museum should become a part of the National Park system. This designation would provide significant resources to Central New York, including increased federal funding for historic preservation and economic development programs, and would increase tourism to the area.

Child Abuse Complaint Results In Arrests

On August 30, 2017, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a report of child abuse on Albion Cross Road in the town of Albion. The report was initiated when the 10-year-old victim fled from a residence on Albion Cross Road and reported to a neighbor that she had been the victim of ongoing physical abuse. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office have charged Gary Bubis Jr, 37, of 393 Albion Cross Road, with Assault in the Second Degree. Also charged with Assault in the Second Degree is 23-year-old Shawn Whaley and 18-year-old Brandy Shaver of the same address.

Mayor Barlow Shares Vision For Oswego at Roundtable

You can accomplish great thing when you work together. That was the message Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow shared Tuesday (August 29). The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce facilitated a “Meet the Mayor Roundtable” at the new Home2 Suites by Hilton in Oswego. More than two dozen city officials, business owners, representatives from various community service organizations and others attended. There’s a huge opportunity for inter-municipal cooperation between Oswego and Fulton as well as the county, the mayor said.

Oswego School District Relocates Central Offices To Leighton Elementary

The Oswego City School District has completed the majority of the work involved in moving its central offices to Frederick Leighton Elementary School and district officials say it’s “business as usual” following the effort. The offices of Curriculum, Personnel, Special Education and Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey are now operational within Leighton’s east wing. The Business Office is expected to complete its move in the coming weeks.
