UPDATE 6 PM – All northbound lanes of I-81 have been re-opened in the Town of Ellisburg
following a multi-vehicle accident and heavy lake-effect snow. Thirty-five vehicles and five tractor trailers were involved in a multi-vehicle accident on I-81 in Town of Ellisburg.. No serious injuries are reported at this time.
The Oswego Salvation Army graduated three students in the inaugural session of the “Bridging the Gap Between Youth and Community Services” program developed by The Salvation Army. It is also the first time the program has been offered in New York State.
Grace is a very affectionate, very busy and very happy young lady. She’s not wild about very young children. Note: that is not a character flaw. How many people do you know who avoid toddlers? But she thoroughly enjoys petting from older kids and adults.
On Wednesday (February 4), at approximately 5:16 a.m., the Oswego County Drug Task Force with the assistance of the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team, executed a methamphetamine related search warrant at 7 Mexico Point Drive West in the town of Mexico.
The temperature was 3.4 degrees colder than average. The precipitation was 1.47 inches below normal. And, snowfall was 19.8 inches off the mark. For the winter, snowfall is 20.5 inches below average.
Oswego County Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner today (Feb. 4) announced the appointment of a special task force dedicated to improving health and reducing poverty in Oswego County. The Community Health and Poverty Reduction Task Force will serve as a steering committee to work with CZB consulting group of Alexandria, Va., to guide a comprehensive study of programs and services available to help those in need in Oswego County. The task force is chaired by County Legislator Roy Reehil (District 5, Constantia).
“For the previous couple of years, our group of AmeriCorps members has made infant fleece blankets and donated them to the families with infants in need who are referred to the County Health Department’s Maternal Child Health Program,” said Carrie Victory, Oswego County AmeriCorps. “The program provides home visits from public health nurses between doctors appointments. AmeriCorps members experience the tremendous reward that comes from helping others.” More than 30 blankets were made by the group and other volunteers.
“The flu has been very active this year,” said Oswego Hospital vice president and chief operating officer Allison Duggan, MD. “In order to safeguard the health of hospitalized patients, we are asking our community to assist us by not visiting friends or family members if they have flu-like symptoms such as fever and coughing.”
On January 30, investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force arrested Michael T. Bort, 45, of 63 N. Third St. Apartment #3, Fulton, based on an arrest warrant issued by Oswego County Court. On Monday (February 2), investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force arrested Shaun M. Salsbery, 35, of 58 N. Fourth St., Fulton, based on an arrest warrant issued by Oswego County Court.
“We are so excited to be able to spend several days with other similar organizations from across the country, learning and honing our prevention skills so our community can be a better place, one that doesn’t suffer from the harms of drug and alcohol abuse,” said Penny Morley, co-chair. “We hope to come back reenergized with new strategies under our belt to tackle drug use in Oswego County.” said Teresa Woolson, steering committee member, VOW Foundation president.
