U.S. Representative John Katko today (Dec. 10) introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives which will advance the designation of Fort Ontario and the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum in Oswego to National Park status. U.S. Representative Richard Hanna, whose district also includes a portion of Oswego County, joined Rep. Katko as an original co-sponsor in the introduction of this legislation.

The suspect of an assault at SUNY Oswego has been apprehended, identified and is pending charges according to a campus wide announcement delivered around 10:30 tonight (December 9.) SUNY Oswego sent out a mass email to all students today at approximately 4 p.m. in regards to an assault suspect on campus that could potentially be armed. The email addressed only the basic information available, informing students there has been an assault in Seneca Hall and the suspect is believed to be at large and possibly armed.

On Monday (December 7), Andrew L. Gaurin, 26, of West Monroe, was sentenced by the Hon. James McCarthy, Oswego County Supreme Court, to 10 years in state prison and 20 years post-release supervision based upon his conviction for Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, a Class B Felony. Two others were also sentenced.
