Oswego Looks To Terminate River Deal With Brookfield

The Common Council voted Monday night to revoke Brookfield Renewable Energy’s authority to police a certain area of the Oswego River near the Varick Dam. At Monday night’s council meeting, Mayor Tom Gillen was authorized, on behalf of the city, to notify Erie in writing of the city’s intent to end the agreement in 30 days. According to the council, Erie has consistently taken actions against fishermen in the Oswego River that exceeded the authority granted in the enforcement authorization agreement.

Two Men Charged Following Drug Investigation

The Oswego County Drug Task Force and the Fulton City Police Department conducted a several-month investigation that resulted in a search warrant executed on Jaycee C. Floyd, 44, of Syracuse, while he was a passenger in a vehicle operated by Tommie Lee Brunson, who was wanted by the Oswego County Drug Task Force on an indictment warrant. The two men were stopped in the city of Fulton in the afternoon of September 18 by the Fulton City Police and members of the Oswego County Drug Task Force.

City, National Grid Amend ‘Tracking Account’

At Monday night’s meeting, the Common Council announced it had reached an agreement with Niagara Mohawk (now doing business as National Grid) that will save the city money over the next 10 years. Due to a 1993 deal, the city currently owes the utility more than $11.5 million. Monday’s deal is a way for the city to pay off the debt without placing any burden on the taxpayers, councilors said.

SUNY Oswego sponsors national journal of undergraduate research

SUNY Oswego has taken over as host campus of the American Journal of Undergraduate Research, a peer-reviewed, open-source publication for student scholarly and creative work in a wide variety of fields. Chemistry department faculty member Kestutis Bendinskas, a subject editor with the journal for eight years, rose to editor, succeeding the late Cliff Chancey of the University of Northern Iowa, who established the journal in 2002.
