The fire is under control now; but it destroyed the structure and caused significant damage to the neighboring house. The blaze was reported around 6:30 a.m. Saturday at 36 Dublin St.
State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $200,000 in special funding to help the city of Fulton and the town of Granby in their work to dredge Lake Neatahwanta and ultimately make the body of water usable again. This most recent support, which comes just days before dredging is slated to begin, builds upon $200,000 secured last year by Senator Ritchie; bringing the two year total to $400,000.
When a five-year-old Fulton boy wanted to help the library he loves, his budding entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to do what kids can do when they want to fund a project – he offered to open a lemonade stand. Declan Nickerson approached Fulton Public Library children’s coordinator Janelle Wallace with his idea. “I was touched when Declan came to me with the idea of a lemonade stand and his desire to give the money to the library,” Wallace said.
In an effort to ensure every child is prepared for school, the United Way of Greater Oswego County held its annual “Stuff-a-Bus” campaign on Wednesday at different bus locations around the county. The school supplies will now be divided among the nine districts in the coming days.
The village of Phoenix community turned out in full force on Saturday for a morning of basketball fun to support its police department’s senior citizen program CHOOSE. Organizer Justus Stahrr said, “The CHOOSE program is a great example of community policing. It’s something that Chief Nerber desires to bring back to this community.”
One of the emergency notification sirens surrounding the nuclear power plants in Scriba inadvertently activated during a thunderstorm this morning, possibly as the result of a lightning strike. There is no emergency at the three nuclear power plants. Dale Currier, director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office, said siren repair personnel from Exelon Generation responded to the site in the town of Oswego as soon as they were notified the siren was sounding.
The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce invites you to celebrate the harvest season at the Annual CNY Great Pumpkin Festival. Scheduled for October 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and October 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival will fill Washington Square Park with crafters, fresh from the farm produce, food vendors, music, and games and rides for children of all ages.
On Wednesday night, the sub-committee presented a variety of suggestions to save the county’s transfer stations open while also being fiscally responsible to all taxpayers. The Infrastructure Committee will likely take a few weeks to consider all the recommendations. A final proposal might not make it to the floor of the legislature until near the end of the year.
Two traffic stops in the city of Oswego, one Monday and one Tuesday, have resulted in several felony drug arrests. A 16-year-old boy and three adults were charged.
