Oswego Council Gives Green Light to Mugs and Motors Event

The council approved closing West First Street between West Bridge and Oneida streets on Sunday afternoons from June 15 to August 31 for the “Mugs and Motors” social event. It will bring all types of vehicles and business to downtown Oswego on a day that is usually not that busy, according the event organizer Anne Backer. It was also announced that the council and committee meetings are now available for viewing on the day following the meeting date.

Ritchie: Measure To Help Find Vaccine For EEE Gets Final Passage

State Senator Patty Ritchie announced that her legislation to help find a vaccine to prevent the deadly EEE disease has passed the State Senate. “The loss of our Maggie Sue (to EEE) was the most devastating experience of our lives and we struggle with that on a daily basis; in part because we strive to find the very difficult balance in protecting our other children from EEE and in learning how to educate them without making them afraid to go outside and be carefree children,” said Donna Wilcox, Maggie Sue’s aunt.

Two-Car Collision in Oswego Injures Two

At 12:45 a.m. today (June 9), Oswego Fire Department crews were dispatched to a two-car motor vehicle collision on State Route 481 near the intersection of Woodridge Terrace. OFD Deputy Chief Dave Engle reported that the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision and two people were injured in the accident. Their injuries are thought to be non-life threatening.

Fulton Man Charged with Cocaine Possession

On Sunday, at about 1:10 a.m., Fulton Police charged Michael L. Myers, 47 of South Twelfth Street in Fulton with cocaine possession with intent to sell. He was observed allegedly urinating in front of the 7-Eleven store at 201 W. Broadway. A police officer stopped and placed him under arrest. Upon a search, four individual baggies of an off-white powdery substance were found in Myers’ pants pocket, according to police. The substance reportedly field tested positive for the presence of cocaine.

Oswego Firefighters Initiate Vacant Building Safety Program

The city of Oswego has dozens of vacant structures, and some are causing concerns for residents and firefighters. Some of these vacant houses and buildings are very well maintained and safely secured by property managers or owners, while other vacant structures are dilapidated and hazardous to those in the immediate area. Vacant structures can put first responders at risk.

Oswego Man Facing Felony Drug Charges

On Thursday, at approximately 3:10 p.m., members of the Oswego City Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team executed a narcotics related search warrant at 40 Liberty St. in the city of Oswego. As a result of the search, investigators seized 100 illegally possessed narcotic prescription pills that were allegedly possessed with the intent to sell.
