Oswego Council Shoots Down Rental Fee Hike

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council voted 3-4 to increase the rental inspection fees. During discussion at last week’s committee meeting it was noted that the city isn’t covering what it costs to perform the inspections. It was suggested to increase the fee to $75 per unit, per three years. The resolution failed, 3-4.

Local Attorney Seeks To Reinstate Five-Percent Cap on Tax Rate Hikes In Oswego

KC petitions  stackAt Monday night’s Common Council meeting, Kevin Caraccioli presented the council with a petition containing more than 520 signatures in support of his proposed amendment to the city charter. Those who signed the petition include people from all political affiliations, young and older residents, small business owners and those with management experience with some of the largest employers in the county, he said.

Quarterly Siren Tests Scheduled May 5 – 9

Dale Currier, director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office, has announced that the system of emergency notification sirens surrounding the three nuclear power plants at Nine Mile Point are scheduled to be tested May 5 through 9, between 4 and 8 p.m. No response by the public is required during these tests.

AmeriCorps Members Pitch in For Human Concerns

americorps cleanup Several groups and individuals rolled up their sleeves over the weekend to help clean up the area. In Oswego, several members of AmeriCorps volunteered to clean up the grounds around the Human Concerns Center on East Fourth Street. AmeriCorps is  currently accepting applications and plans to begin interviewing for summer positions in May.
