The Christmas Kettle campaign makes up about one-third of the Oswego County Salvation Army’s annual budget. Each season, the funds raised are donated to those in need. In many cases, anything from heating bills and activities such as summer camps for children are supported. With less than two weeks to go, they would benefit from an additional 50 to 100 volunteers.
There will be a 0.4 percent increase in the Oswego County property tax levy. The generic tax rate is $7.22 per thousand dollars of assessed value, which translates to an increase of $11.34 for the average residential home in Oswego County.

Oswego County sheriff’s deputies have arrested two men they say are responsible for a variety of crimes in the area.

The Oswego County Legislature voted 17-8 on Thursday night to adopt the 2014 spending plan. The roughly $197 million budget will raises taxes about $11 on an average Oswego County home.
UPDATE: Victims Identified
At about 8:05 a.m. today (Dec. 12), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash on Sate Route 3 in the town of Palermo that resulted in two fatalities.
The North Country, which includes Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties and which once again was named a “top performer” in the Governor’s annual economic growth competition, will receive $81.3 million. The Central New York region, including Oswego County, is in line for $66.9 million in economic development investment by the state.
