With the Christmas and holiday celebration season upon us, your county sheriff would like to provide some safety tips that will help everyone to have a safe and enjoyable holiday season. With the increased demands on our time and attention this time of year, we are more vulnerable to crime.

The three area Wal-Mart store joined forces over the weekend to support not only the Salvation Army, but Toys for Tots as well. A group of karate students donated the proceeds from a fall fundraiser to help “fill the entire back of the truck.”

Search warrants were executed in the city as well as Oswego Town. The investigation is ongoing and further charges are possible, police said.

According to the announcement, the Mexico Big M will be part of the deal. The manager said it is a testament to the work the employees have done that made Tops interested in the stores. The sale is expected to close by December 31.

The charges include charges of 13 counts of Welfare Fraud, 3rd degree, a class D felony; 13 counts of Grand Larceny, 3rd degree, a class D felony; 2 counts of Grand Larceny, 4th degree, a class E felony and Welfare Fraud, 4th degree, a class E felony along with 11 counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing, a class E felony. The total value of the benefits is equal to more than $109,000 which included Medicaid, Food Stamps, HEAP and Temporary Assistance.
