Each year more people in the United States die from extreme heat exposure than from hurricanes, lightening, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined. On average, about 300 people die each year from exposure to heat. Temperatures will linger around 90 degrees the next few days – with high humidity.

At 2 p.m. on Monday, Matthew D. Roof, 34, of 26279 Middle Road, Watertown, was arrested for first-degree criminal contempt, a class E felony and bribing a witness, a class D felony.

Some city residents and councilor wonder if the $150 million project will become a reality. They asked about the center’s structural integrity, services and parking issues among other questions.

New signage will be installed to identify the garden as an official site of the War of 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden Trail. The garden route covers more than 600 miles in the U.S. and Canada and includes 17 peace gardens in communities where events took place during the War of 1812.

The executive director of OOC reported that in 2011, projects assisted by OOC resulted in the retention of creation of 642 jobs with more than $292 million in capital investment associated with 54 new, expanded or retained facilities. Three business organizations, a successful entrepreneur and a long-standing economic development advocate were honored at the meeting.
