Students start to get the word: Next year’s school budget will take away some of the things they love. Also today, a preview of the upcoming baseball season.
Fulton and Oswego received no snow or rain on March 20. However, today, the first full day of spring, is a different story.
It was a “relatively normal” Oswego winter, said Bill Gregway, the local weather observer for the National Weather Service said. “We have had much colder and we have had much warmer,” he added.
At approximately 8:42 a.m. today (March 19), Oswego City Police responded to a report of a 55-year-old man, possibly armed with a handgun and suicidal, in the area of 101 State Route 104 East. Police deployed a Taser and subsequently subdued the suspect, successfully taking him into custody.
The Fulton area enjoyed a sunny and dry St. Patrick’s Day.
They discovered that their list of possible cuts — all of which they said would harm education — would save more than the amount needed to fill the more than $600,000 gap between income and expenses for next school year.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that the priority list would eliminate every extracurricular activity at Hannibal, badly damage co-curricular activities like band and chorus, and take another slice from academics.
Students from six economics classes take part in a bake sale at the high school during Thursday’s open house to get a taste of real world job experiences. The project was augmented by ‘consultants’ from the Oswego business community who volunteered their time to help guide the OHS Inc. students.
Forget about the calendar. There’s no need to search for a robin. You know spring has arrived when Rudy’s opens for the season; and summer isn’t far away!
