Brookfield Power says it will cooperate fully with an investigation into an incident on the Oswego River near its Varick Dam Tuesday. Some fishermen said that no alarms sounded when the dam began spilling water into the river, though Oswego Police now say the alarms did sound. Four fishermen had to be rescued from the river; one died.
UPDATE: Oswego Police name the victim and a second fisherman, who’s in the hospital.
A special education teaching assistant from Palermo is the state’s newest millionaire.

When Maggie Ellis accepted her Oswego High School diploma on the stage of the SUNY Oswego Campus Center it was the final step toward her acceptance of the Possibilities Scholarship. Through a unique partnership between the school district and SUNY Oswego, Ellis became the first OHS student to officially receive a Possibilities Scholarship.

Four people were rescued after being swept away by fast-moving high water in the Oswego River earlier this afternoon. Two of the victims were pulled out of the water near the Bridge Street Bridge. The other two were rescued behind the former Coleman’s restaurant.
