153 years ago, the first Oswego County Fair was held. Today, the tradition of an agriculturally-based festival continues as the fair opens for another year at the fairgrounds in Sandy Creek.
Admission and parking are free, though the cost of events in the Grandstand can vary.

Over the weekend, someone broke into the closed New York Chocolate and Confections plant in Fulton, stealing some items and damaging others, according to Fulton Deputy Police Chief Tom Abelgore.

New York Governor David Paterson kept his promise. Moments after the state Senate and Assembly passed bills completing the state budget, he began vetoing them. His first veto: A bill that would have given schools $400 million more than the Governor would give them.
The council agrees to seek developers for the former Coleman’s property. In the meantime, they will allow Harborfest to use part of the property to prepare for and celebrate the festival.
A funnel cloud was spotted by a police officer and others in the Palermo area at around 8:36 p.m. Monday. Doppler radar also indicated the possible presence of a tornado.
Reports to the National Weather Service indicate that the storm blew down two barns and two sheds three miles southeast of Palermo. No injuries have been reported.

The National Weather Service has posted a Flood Advisory for the Salmon River from Lake Ontario through Oswego County.
The advisory last until 6:15 p.m. Monday.
The weather service says the advisory is due to the heavy rain across the region and what it calls “related emergency river operations”.
Higher than normal water flows will be seen from the Altmar dam upriver through Pulaski and to Lake Ontario.
Extreme caution is being advised.
