The storm produced more than a foot of snow farther inland, in Oneida County’s communities of Camden and Florence.
The good news is that we get today to shovel out. Only scattered flurries are in the forecast.
Groups such as the union New York State United Teachers and the New York State School Board Association filed suit this week to try to block the government from withholdings funds scheduled to be sent to every school district in the state. See a full list of aid holdbacks by school district, city and county.
A committee will create drafts of the budget, which Superintendent Bill Lynch will bring before the Board of Education for its review and comments. All school budgets in the state go before voters on May 18, 2010.
Despite Wednesday’s snow burst, the area’s snowfall is still below where it should be. While December’s snowfall is about where it should be, the season started nearly 10 inches below average – which could mean a winter with less than 100 inches of snow.

“When you consider that over the past six years, our city has suffered the loss of the Nestle Company, the Fulton Cogeneration Company and the A. L. Lee Memorial Hospital most recently, I feel we are fortunate to have been able to keep taxes as stable as they have been,” Mayor Ron Woodward said in a brief address at the start of the public hearing on the budget.
