Scene Around Town: Bike Ride Begins In Oswego

You might have seen a whole bunch of bike riders in Oswego on Sunday and wondered what was going on.

The riders were in Oswego to begin the annual “Ride For Runaways”, put on by Anchor House of Trenton, New Jersey.  The agency’s website doesn’t explain why Oswego serves as the beginning of their rundraising ride, but we’re guessing it’s because Oswego to Trendon is about 500 miles.  A nice, round number.

Senate Fight Ends; Bills For County, City Sales Taxes Approved; Reforms Coming

It took until the wee hours of Friday morning, but members of the State Senate finally found a way to meet and pass urgently needed bills.

The Senate met as a complete body for the first time in a month because the Democrat who flipped to the Republicans in exchange for something good for himself flopped back to the Democrats in exchange for something good for himself.

County Social Services Caseworker Increase Goes To Legislature Today

The Oswego County Legislature today takes up a plan to increase the number of county social services caseworkers.

The increase was recommended by the authors of a study from Cornell University of the county’s Social Services department in the wake of the death of 11 year old Erin Maxwell of Palermo.

Volney Home Destroyed By Fire

There’s no word yet on what caused a house fire in Volney Wednesday.

The home at 1508 County Route 57 was destroyed by fire late in the afternoon. The one-family home is owned by Sandra Audas, according to the county’s online property tax database.

No injuries were reported. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
