Judge Reserves Decision On Motions To Suppress Evidence

A judge has reserved decision on several motions to suppress evidence in the case against Cathy L. Scott, the Constantia woman who is accused of killing a motorcyclist in September 2007 while driving drunk. Because of the legislative timeline related to a New York law, the charge that carried the harshest penalty in Scott’s seven-count indictment was dismissed.

Buske Sentenced On Rape Charge

The former Hannibal bus driver who was accused of having sexual intercourse with a teenager has been sentenced to prison time. Jeanine M. Buske, 33, pleaded guilty to third-degree rape and was sentenced to 1-½ to 3 years in state prison. Buske is presently in custody at the Oswego County Correctional Facility, awaiting transfer to a state facility.

Tours To Feature Fort’s ‘Notable Dead’

<p>A dead body's hand reaches out from under a sheet. The west artillery casemate is being redone to reflect what it might have looked like in the early 1900s when it was a makeshift morgue when an Influenza outbreak decimated the fort as well as the Port City.</p>

How many ghost stories are there connected to Fort Ontario? “More than the number of bars in Oswego,” quipped one of the organizers of this year’s ghost tours at the historic landmark. Some legendary figures, such as Lt. Basil Dunbar, killed in a duel in 1759, or Private George Fykes, who died in a 1782 fever epidemic, are rumored to appear as ghostly figures walking the ramparts of Fort Ontario and scaring army sentries and intruders.

Barboni Arraignment Delayed

Arraignment proceedings for Jay Barboni, the man accused of murder in the death of his girlfriend’s son, have been delayed. By decision of the grand jury, Barboni is facing a three-count indictment that includes second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter.

Sigma Tau Chi Fraternity Ready To Assist Neighbors

<p>Sigma Tau Chi fraternity brothers pose in Montcalm Park recently. The group is joined by "Rusty," who made friends with everyone in the park.</p>

The fraternity brothers recently contacted their (First Ward) alderman to ask what they could do to help out members of their community, especially those in the ward. They have cleaned up Montcalm Park, assisted neighbors with a variety of odd jobs, and are looking for more things that need to be done.

Oswego Man Accepts Plea In Drug Case

Nyome “Mike” Sobe entered a guilty plea Oct. 1 before acting Oswego County Court Judge Spencer Ludington to one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is currently awaiting sentencing. Police regard Sobe’s arrest as the trigger that launched the Attorney General’s year-long investigation into a cocaine distribution network.
