Fulton ‘Ahead of Curve’ Pending Final Bridge Rehabilitation

The City of Fulton Common Council awarded the winning bid for the rehabilitation of the North Sixth Street bridge over CSX located between Kimball Avenue and Clark Street. The project is anticipated to start following a pre-construction meeting on Tuesday, April 17 with anticipated completion within 90 days. Following completion, all bridges within the City of Fulton will be up to date.

St. Baldrick’s Organizers: ‘We Are Having A Party!’

This year’s St. Baldrick’s Day in Oswego head-shaving fundraiser for childhood cancer research funds will have a more family-friendly feel to it. Planning committee member Terra Pritchard said, “We want families to come and have a good time, whether they know anyone shaving or not.” To that end, there will be face-painting, cotton candy and popcorn, live music and more.

Oswego County DSS Reports $1.1 Million Savings in 2017

The Oswego County Department of Social Services reported 105 cases of people whose applications for public assistance were either denied or withdrawn in 2017. This resulted in $1.1 million in savings of avoided benefits costs for county taxpayers. These cases involved attempts by people to collect benefits that they weren’t eligible for.

Harborfest Announces Fireworks Sponsorships, Entertainment

Oswego Harborfest today (April 5) announced a new multi-year agreement with its new Grucci Fireworks sponsors – Exelon Generation and Pathfinder Bank. Entertainment for the festival also announced. Headliners include Don Felder (formerly of the Eagles), Almost Queen, Changes in Latitude and more. This year, Harborfest is scheduled for July 26 through 29. “Breitbeck Park will be rocking opening night with all of Queen’s hits. The sing-along of Bohemian Rhapsody will be a moment you don’t want to miss,” the president of the festival’s board said.

Stricter Regulations and Fines for Fulton Landlords

The Fulton Common Council targeted landlords with amendment to city charter. An amendment of Subsection C152(J) of the City Charter entitled Housing maintenance; rental permits added stricter regulations and fines for landlords. Under new law, landlords will not be permitted new or renewed rental permits if they are in violation of any city code or owe unpaid property taxes, water and sewer bills, or fees of any nature owed to the City of Fulton. Any landlord that does not obtain a rental permit will accrue a $200 fine each month until such permit is obtained. Any landlord that does not live within the city will be required to designate a property manager residing within 25 miles. Each month that a property manager remains undesignated, landlords will accrue a $200 fine.
