Mayor Barlow Announces Local Art Competition For Fort Ontario Tunnel Mural Project

Mayor Billy Barlow is reaching out to the local arts community to beautify and enhance the Fort Ontario tunnel entrance on East Seventh Street. He indicated in his State of the City Address earlier this year the city of Oswego would allocate funding to improve the Fort Ontario Tunnel and would conduct a competition for local artists and organizations to submit murals and artwork to be incorporated into the project.

Pulaski Students Urged To Be Upstander Ambassadors

AT&T, the Tyler Clementi Foundation and Siena College teamed up with Pulaski Mayor Angel Rodriguez and Pulaski High School on Wednesday, March 21, to host the AT&T and Siena Upstander Program, a new cyberbullying peer-to-peer prevention program utilizing trained Siena students to help educate students, teachers and school administrators on the growing cyberbullying epidemic and to provide workshops, tools and resources to combat it.

Sheriff Todd To Step Down, Endorses Undersheriff

Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd’s daughter read a letter at the county GOP Committee meeting recently saying that he isn’t running for re-election. However, she noted that he intends to finish out his term in office. In his letter to the committee, the sheriff said he supports Undersheriff Gene Sullivan as his successor.

Syracuse Company Eyes Takeover Of Oswego Softball Complex

Committee members OK’d City Attorney Kevin Caraccioli’s request to enter into a sports management contract with Champions Events in Syracuse for the operation and management of the Legends Fields commencing with the 2018 softball season. The company proposes to refurbish the sports diamonds as well as repair the buildings at the complex. Moreover, they will organize softball leagues and provide a facility manager to oversee daily operations.

Whaley Pleads Guilty In Albion Abuse Case

On Monday (March 19) morning, Shawn Whaley, 24, appeared before the Hon. James McCarthy, Oswego County Supreme Court, and pleaded guilty to the entire indictment that was filed against him. Whaley, whose jury trial was scheduled to begin Monday, pleaded guilty to 13 separate offenses, including six felonies that occurred in the town of Albion during the summer of 2017.
