Park Fees, Sea Cadets’ Request Tabled

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council tabled a pair of resolutions until they could get some more information. The DPW commissioner’s request to set a fee schedule for use of Breitbeck Park (non-pavilion area) for weddings and the Sea Cadets’ request to use the McCrobie Civic Center on certain dates for drills were both pulled from Monday night’s agenda.

Informational Meeting Shows Potential for Growth Among Fulton Block Builders

Fulton Block Builders administrative director, Linda Eagan addressed a packed house as she explained the mission of the grassroots organization and answered questions from the community at a recent informational meeting. A room full of Fulton citizens intrigued by the program showed a strong potential for the Fulton Block Builders (FBB) to grow in participants in the 2018 Block Challenge. “In 2018, I am hopeful that a lot of Blocks will expand neighborhood conversations, organize with new people, apply for a FBB grant and re-engage in their neighborhood and our community,” Eagan said. The revitalization program, launched in Fulton in 2017 based off the Healthy Neighborhood Initiative, offers approved homeowners the opportunity to recapture a dollar-for-dollar match up to $1,000 on funds they use to make exterior home improvements.

Thomas Benedetto, with 25 years of experience in Family Court and a lifelong Republican, has announced his candidacy for Oswego County Family Court Judge. “The safety and well-being of our children will be a critical issue in this race,” Benedetto said. “Electing someone with the right mix of legal and practical experience is key. Child Advocacy Center Has New Home, Old Problem

Located at 163 S. First St. in Fulton, with a satellite office at 4822 Salina St. in Pulaski, the CAC of Oswego County is a non-profit charitable organization that works to protect and serve children that are victims of sexual and physical abuse. They have been seeing an increase in the number of cases in recent years. The director attributes that to the good work of area law enforcement and several other agencies; it doesn’t necessarily mean there is more abuse in the county than elsewhere, she pointed out.

January marks six months of Uber in Oswego County. Since launching in Oswego County on June 29, 2017, Uber has helped thousands of residents and visitors get around; facilitating access to public transportation, helping people make responsible choices if their plans involve alcohol, and offering flexible economic opportunities to drivers, said Danielle Filson, Uber spokesperson.

Mayor Barlow Announces Decline In City Overtime For Second Consecutive Year

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today (Jan. 18) that, for the second year in a row, city overtime expenses have declined. Total overtime for all city of Oswego departments combined in 2017 was $857,395. The total for 2017 was significantly less than the official total for 2016 at $1,008,502, the first year of Mayor Barlow’s administration, and significantly less than the total in 2015 at $1,228,384.

Great Eastern Whiteout Antique, Vintage Snowmobile Show Returns To Fulton

The year was 2001 when two vintage snowmobile buddies Bill Monette and Joe Racheal decided to put on a vintage snowmobile show and race at the Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek. The idea came about as a result of a long-time show called The Eastern Ride-in held at Borio’s restaurant on Onieda Lake a regional event organized by the Vintage Snowmobile Club of America.
