UPDATE:
State Route 481 has been reopened as of 3 a.m. Friday June 9.
At about 5:16 p.m. today (June 8), emergency crews responded to a one-car rollover motor vehicle accident on State Route 481 in front of the Pontiac Nursing Home. 481 between Churchill Road and Syracuse Ave is expected to remain closed until early Friday morning as crews attempt to repair the damaged lines.
The reunion brings alumni from around the world — representing graduating classes as far back as 1947 — to reconnect with their alma mater for a weekend of activities and events, according to Laura Pavlus Kelly, the college’s director of alumni and parent relations. It will be the second largest number of attendees in reunion history, said Kelly, who also is a 2009 alumna.
Paul E. Foster recently presented Linda Eagan with a check in support of the Fulton Block Builder (FBB) matching grant program. “The official fund raising campaign has ended but the support for Fulton Block Builders remains strong,” said Eagan. Other recent donations have come from Davis Standard – a global leader in high-performance plastic and rubber extrusion and converting systems and our local sporting goods retailer, B&T Sports.
The Fulton Common Council approved the expenditure of an additional $100,000 to allow Fulton based contractor, Rowlee Construction to continue removing debris from the former Nestle site. Last month, the council accepted a bid from Rowlee to remove debris from the 2.2 acre corner parcel of the site that is designated to incoming supermarket chain, Aldi. Rowlee is on pace to exceed the $100,000 limit as of the current work that has been completed, requiring the council to consider an additional approval for continued work, Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. said.
Butcher, Baker and Candlestick maker; only the baker was represented among the a plethora of other local careers visiting Leighton Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon to share their expertise with students. The elementary students could meet people representing a wide variety of professions, including dentist, firefighter, police officer, welder, restaurateur and youth director.
On Tuesday, a 2003 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Lemoyne Ave. in the town of Salina when it attempted to change lanes. The Mustang exited the west side of the of the roadway striking a utility pole and rolling over a 3-foot cement wall, coming to rest upside down in the parking lot of Sweeneys Auto Repair. The driver was hospitalized.
This afternoon at roughly 1:45, Tim Conners returned to his anxiously awaiting family after an adventurous two-week stretch in Africa. Conners, commonly referred to as Tim Possible, traveled the 7,556 miles from Fulton to the Kilimanjaro International Airport in Africa two weeks ago to begin his trek to the top of the highest point on the African continent as part of his MounTimPossible mission. On his twelfth day in Africa, Conners and his team partnered with K2 Adventures Foundation reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at 18,885 feet after 53 hours of climbing over a nine day stretch.
A lifelong Sixth Ward city of Oswego resident, Ron Tesoriero, has announced his candidacy for the Sixth Ward seat on the Oswego Common Council. Tesoriero is a 38-year member of the Local 73 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and is currently the plumbing inspector for the city of Oswego, a job he will abdicate should he win the election later this year.
On Monday, sheriff’s deputies arrested Gary Francis Floss, 74, of 422 US Route 11, Central Square. He was charged with first-degree rape, a class B felony. He allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim being less than 11 years of age.
This Saturday (June 10) Friends of Fulton Park, as sponsored by Oswego County Federal Credit Union, will present a day full of free fun at Fulton’s Foster Park. The event will include music from KingKat DJ Music, an inflatable obstacle course, bottle flipping contests, horse rides, an animal show, face painting, games, and more.
