The public is invited to attend a community open house reception for retiring Superintendent of Schools William R. Lynch. The event will be held June 16, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Fulton Junior High School cafeteria, 129 Curtis St., Fulton.
It is fitting, race fans say, that the “Dynamic Duo” have streets intersecting across from the iconic Oswego Speedway. Nolan Swift and Jim Shampine competed side by side many times at Oswego’s ‘Steel Palace.’ Now they will forever more be wheel to wheel at the speedway. Hailing from Syracuse, Swift was the first dominant force at Oswego Speedway driving his famous 10 pins.
OK, nobody actually sat down and shared a cup of coffee with Mayor Billy Barlow or Chief Tory DeCaire. But what they did share was plenty of productive dialogue. “This was a chance for Oswego residents to meet with Chief DeCaire and myself in a casual setting, ask questions and voice any concerns they might have,” the mayor told Oswego County Today. The next coffee meeting will take place on June 2.
Fulton Fire Department reported to a fire yesterday (May 19) around 7:30 p.m. on State Street in the city of Fulton. According to the American Red Cross, immediate emergency assistance is being provided to nine residents of the home composed of six adults and three children.
NYS Governor, Andrew Cuomo announced last week the approval of Smart Schools Investment Plans for 52 school districts throughout the state, including Fulton City School District. The Smart Schools Bond Act, proposed by the Governor and approved by voters in 2014, allotted $2 billion to NYS school districts to heighten learning through technological and infrastructure enhancements. The NYS Education Department also recently announced that two elementary schools in FCSD have been identified as Local Assistance Plan (LAP) schools for the 2016-2017 school year. Fairgrieve Elementary School remains in LAP status for the second year in a row and is joined by Volney Elementary School identifying as a LAP school for the first time.
Mayor Billy Barlow announced the creation of the Downtown Revitalization Committee whose primary task will ensure the city of Oswego competes for Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative. The Downtown Revitalization Initiative program will invest $10 million in ten communities throughout the state.

The city of Fulton Police Department will join local and national law enforcement officers and highway safety advocates all across the country for the 2016 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization, May 23 through June 5.
The Oswego County Legislature held its annual Youth Government Day recently and dozens of middle school students from around the county got the chance to take part in county government. Prior to the meeting, Legislator Shawn Doyle, of the county’s bicentennial committee, conducted a survey of the students. He asked the young students various questions about the county’s present and future.
