At 3:44 p.m. Monday (May 16), sheriff’s deputies arrested Joseph D. Bagley, 49, of 2650 Wise Road, Apt. A, Cato, for first-degree rape, a class B felony and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
The Common Council will consider a resolution next week to hire an organization to help create a plan to upgrade the Eastside Wastewater Treatment Plant so it meets DEC requirements. Mayor Billy Barlow requested council consideration of a pact regarding an Assessment Management Plan for the plant. The plan will enable the city to move forward responsibly with upgrades to the facility.
All ten Oswego County school districts were well represented in the second annual Oswego County Olympiad, giving nearly 400 special education students the chance to compete athletically in a wide variety of events. This year’s student athletes arrived at Phoenix High School where they excitedly got off their buses to crowds of family, friends, teachers, fellow students and school mascots awaiting their arrival, lined up to escort them to the competition field. Student athletes of all ages, developmental and physical abilities competed in a wide variety of events including track events such as the 50m and 100m dash, jumping events such as long jump and standing jump, field events such as shot-put, football and softball toss.

Oswego Expeditions will offer a free guided history tour from Oswego to the Oswego County Tourism Ambassador Program in Brewerton May 23. Of the 36 local heroes, Fulton Common Councilman representing the Sixth Ward, Lawrence Macner was one of many nominations ultimately chosen to receive the distinction of being inducted to the NYS Senate “Veterans Hall of Fame.” Macner was in good company alongside 12 other Oswego County nominees including Thomas R. Bradway, Clark B. Francis, Father Moritz Fuchs, Donald Mark Grant Sr., Edward F. Kelley Jr., Richard J. Kemmis, Theodore LeClair, Frank L. Manchester, Nicholas Wilson Mansfield, Harold “Hap” Petrie, Dr. Allen Rosenberg and Duane R. Smith.
On May 13, at 9:26 p.m., the New York State Police responded to a car – pedestrian motor vehicle collision that occurred in front of the Brewerton Speedway located at 60 US Route 11 in the town of Hastings.
On May 13, at approximately 9:20 p.m., State Police in Pulaski responded to a call of person with a gunshot wound at a residence, 3510 County Route 22 in the town of Orwell. When troopers arrived they discovered William A. Willson, 57, from 106 Park Drive in Rome, with a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
Two seats are up for grabs on the Fulton City School District Board of Education at this year’s budget vote scheduled for Tuesday, May 17. There are three candidates running to fill the two open seats that become available when the current terms of board members Christine Plath and David Carvey expire at the end of this school year. While Christine Plath did not seek reelection, David Carvey is running for reelection along with newcomers Paula Hayden and Lynn Lyons, of which the two candidates with the most votes will each serve a three year term. Oswego County Today asked the candidates a few questions to get some inside information on their campaign, their results will appear in the order that the candidates will appear on the ballot.
