Thanks to the efforts of great volunteers and the support of several area businesses and human services agencies our first ever Family Day of Play event was a big success! Almost two hundred children and family members joined us at Camp Hollis for a day of fun and learning and to enjoy the opportunity to interact with each other, make new friends, and participate in a number of child and family friendly activities.
June 1 was the opening of CNY Art Gallery located at 357 State St., Fulton. Many artist displayed some remarkable work in the new home of the gallery. Congratulations to everyone for an amazing job, not just the art work, but the gallery too!
The Human Concerns Center would like to thank both postal employees and community members for their participation in the May 11 “Stamp Out Hunger” letter carrier food drive. The event is the largest one-day food drive in the world. It allows every resident in the county and across the nation to donate food that ultimately stays within the community to help its needy neighbors.
I am writing to encourage all registered voters in the community to participate in the school budget vote and Board of Education elections. On Tuesday, May 21 registered voters in the Fulton City School District will be asked to vote on the 2013-14 school district budget. Members of the Board of Education approved a $65.26 million tentative budget at their April 9 meeting.
The Fulton Boys’ Lacrosse Program held a fundraiser car wash/bottle and can drive on Saturday May 11 at Lakeview Lanes. A big thank you goes out to the community, despite the gloomy weather people came out to show their support for the boys.
The Friends of the Oswego Library respectfully asks the citizens of the Oswego City School District to support the Oswego S.D. Public Library by visiting their polling locations on May 21 and vote yes for the levy that’s has been placed on the ballot. This levy is required to operate and fund the Oswego S.D. Public library.
Emotional, inspirational and every other positive adjective you can think of describes the production of Helen Keller at the CNY Art Center at last Saturday’s performance, which was cosponsored and attended by Fulton Lions Club members and friends.
I extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who lent their support to the United Way’s second annual Stone Soup Luncheon held recently at the Pulaski American Legion Post 358. Our theme for this year’ luncheon was ‘Break bread, warm your heart, and gather with friends to support local food pantries.’
With summer soon upon us, I would like to take this moment to talk about how the Oswego County Health Department is preparing for the upcoming mosquito season. We will begin staff training during the last week of May and move into full surveillance the following week.
