Gillibrand, Colleagues Introduce Legislation To Remedy Unequal Tax Treatment Of Same-Sex Couples
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand joined 47 of her Senate colleagues to reintroduce the bipartisan Refund Equality Act. The bill would allow legally married same-sex couples who were barred from filing federal taxes jointly until 2013 to file amended returns back to the date of their marriage. The bill will help same-sex couples secure an estimated $55 million in refunds.

Gillibrand, Colleagues Introduce Bill To Help Small Farms Access Federal Resources
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand joined 9 of her Senate colleagues to introduce the Small Farm Conservation Act, legislation that would help small farms access federal conservation programs delivered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). EQIP helps farmers improve soil health, water quality, and air quality; protect against drought and weather volatility; and conserve ground and surface water.

Gillibrand Announces Legislation To Reform The National Flood Insurance Program
Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced her support for the bipartisan and bicameral National Flood Insurance Program Reauthorization (NFIP-RE) Act of 2023. This legislation would reauthorize the program for five years and would provide greater stability for homeowners, small business owners, and the real estate market. It would also implement a series of sweeping reforms to reduce costs, establish a fairer claims process for policyholders and make generational investments in communities to reduce flood risk.

Gillibrand Announces Bill To Strengthen 9/11 Victims Law
Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced her support for the Ensuring Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act, bipartisan legislation that would close loopholes in the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA). The bill would make technical corrections to JASTA that would enable families of victims of terrorism to sue foreign state actors for aiding and abetting terrorism.

Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $77,614,098 in federal funding for Head Start programs in New York State. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and will be used to provide comprehensive early childhood education, health, and parent involvement services to low-income children and families.

Schumer, Gillibrand Announce Over $1.2 Million In Federal Funding For Fire Departments In New York State
Today, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $1,223,040.65 in federal funding for fire departments across New York State. The funding will be used to provide protective gear, training, and supplies to emergency personnel across thirteen fire departments. This federal funding was administered through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG).
