On August 8 and 9, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to beautiful Baldwinsville to host the Western New York Junior Shootout at Timber Banks Golf Club. In the Boys’ 15-18 division, Oswego resident Eric Demidowicz took home the first place trophy as he really showed off his talent on the putting green.
Another 100 plus entries took on Oswego Kartway last Friday night with Griffin Miller and Dave Cliff scoring the night’s big victories at the ‘Bullring.’ Miller, the grandson of veteran Supermodified car owner Steve Miller, led every lap on his way to his first career victory in the Jr. Blue Clone division on Friday, driving the No. 9.
On Nov. 14, the following individuals will be inducted to the Oswego State Hall of Fame at a banquet: wrestler Tom Stanbro ’83, multi-sport athlete Angela Ryan ’85, men’s lacrosse defenseman Paul Mizer ’85, women’s basketball star M.J. O’Toole ’95, swimmers Patrick Chetney ’93 and Charlie Manners ’96 and women’s soccer standout Janet D’Agostino Davis ’98.
The Shampine Memorial will air Thursday, August 13, in primetime at 7 p.m. The ISMA Supermodified Jack Murphy Memorial will air on MAVTV in two weeks, August 27, at 7 p.m.
As the countdown continues toward the 59th running of the Budweiser International Classic 200 at Oswego Speedway on September 6, we look back at the next historic Classic driver on our list, 1950’s Modified ace Billy Blum. Blum is the first driver on our countdown that graced Oswego’s victory lane in Classic competition, and he did so all the way back in 1958.
Oswego Speedway continues its summer stretch of action Saturday, August 15 with Driver Autograph and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Night presented by Bosco’s and U-Pull U-Save Auto Parts. Saturday’s schedule includes a 50-lap Novelis Supermodified main event as well as a 30-lap Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super feature, as well as an Oswego Kartway driver exhibition during intermission.
