The swimmers were successful, the varsity football team stunned and the jayvee eleven victorious in recent Buc sports action.

Five different players scored for the Oswego State women’s soccer team (7-9-0) in an 8-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill (3-13-0) on a chilly, windy Sunday afternoon.

The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team ran into a hot goaltender in Thatcher Demko, as the Lakers lost 2-0 in an exhibition game against the USA Under-18 team Saturday night in front of a sold-out Campus Center Ice Arena.

The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team opened its 2012-13 season with a 2-1 exhibition loss to the Toronto Midget Aeros on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The Lakers held a 1-0 lead after the first period, but were unable to maintain the lead.

Nikki Liadka (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.) ensured the seniors had a game to remember as she scored in overtime to help the Oswego State women’s soccer team (6-9-0, 3-6-0 SUNYAC) down Cortland (8-4-4, 5-2-2 SUNYAC) 1-0 on Senior Day.

The Oswego State men’s soccer team (4-10-1, 3-5-1 SUNYAC) was unable to score in a must-win game at Cortland (8-7-1, 5-3-1 SUNYAC), and the Lakers were eliminated from State University of New York Athletic Conference playoff contention in a 1-0 loss on Saturday.

Senior Michelle Ruskey (Deerfield, N.Y.) tallied the lone goal of the game in the sixth minute to help the Oswego State field hockey team (4-10, 2-4 SUNYAC) send its six seniors out in style with a 1-0 win over Brockport (6-6, 2-4 SUNYAC) on Saturday.

The Oswego Speedway Eagles Fan Club will once again play an integral part in the 2012 Mitchell’s Speedway Press Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame Banquet on November 10 at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center.

Despite dropping a pair of straight-set losses to Buffalo State and Fredonia, the Oswego State volleyball team (11-16, 2-4 SUNYAC) will enter the SUNYAC Playoffs as the third-seed from the West Division.
