The annual meeting of the society was sparsely attended with only 21 present. President Doyle was unable to attend as he was forced into work and Vice President Monette was out of town. So, Trustee Margaret Kastler ran the meeting.
On Monday September 17 the Society will host an open house reception put on by the Pulaski Lions Club to mark their 50th anniversary. The group, formed in 1961, has been headquartered at Half-Shire on the second floor since 2001.
The Society hosted the annual Redfield Schools Reunion on Aug. 18 from noon until nearly 5 p.m. There were about 25 in attendance and among the number were two graduates of the one time full school district. Doris Brown Allen (1938) and Edward Simson (1942) both were pleased to be present and also spoke on the phone with fellow graduate Yvette “Chiki” Dahl Harmon in Florida.
During these dry weeks some of us took advantage of the opportunity to search local graveyards for “lost stones” that are more readily found in dry periods when the sod above them brown first. Trustee Margaret Kastler had the most significant discovery while poking around Noyes cemetery. She found a long-lost stone that caused us quite a stir as we tried to figure it out.
The regular meeting of the society was held on Saturday July 21, with nearly thirty present. Vice President Greg Monette presided in the absence of President Doyle. Announcement was made of the $3,000 grant we will receive from the Greater Pulaski Community fund towards the replacement of our heating system.
The 155th Oswego County Fair is now history and the record of activities in Heritage Hall show a very productive week. We had many 100s of people walk through our building and visit with us. Our volunteers scanned 1,000s of photos and made corrections and additions to numerous family trees. The weather cooperated fully, with only one day that was overly warm.
The fund drive to raise money for the handicapped accessibility project last fall was an overwhelming success! More than $15,000 was raised, combined with $7,000 from the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust which brought in enough to order a very good platform lift and to completely renovate the entryway and staircase going into our main hall.
