OSWEGO, NY – Santina C. Paino, 92, a resident of East Sixth Street, passed away on Wednesday February 29, 2012, at the Manor at Seneca Hill.
Born on December 20, 1919, in Casselevechio Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Maria (Cacciola) Cannavo.
She emigrated to the United States aboard the Vulcania with her mother and brother.
They arrived in the United States on April 10, 1930, to be with her father.
She attended local schools and was employed with the Lastlong Company, Stollman’s Clothing and later retired in 1987 as the manager of the Shapiro’s Women’s Store in Oswego.
Santina enjoyed gardening, NY Yankees baseball and the occasional trips the casino.
Surviving are her son, Frank A. Paino Jr. of Oswego; her daughter, Joanne Paino of Oswego; nieces, Cassandra (Francis) Catalone and Judith Auclair; nephews, Frank (Elizabeth) Paino, Michael (Dorothy) Paino and John (Vita) Paino; and many loving friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank A. Paino Sr., in 1989; and her brother Alfred Cannova, in 1982.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church.
Burial will be in St.Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Friday from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

The Oswego Community has lost a wonderful woman. I had the privilege of knowing Santie almost my entire life.(We were neighbors while I was growing up and after I moved away I would make a point of stopping and visiting with her on my trips back to Oswego. My trips back just won’t be the same without seeing Santie, and I was one of her friends who loved her. I will miss you, Santie
Mrs. Paino always welcomed us into her home, and to what ever happened to be cooking on the stove when we stopped by to see Coach P.
