Raymond J. Gardner, 72

HANNIBAL, NY – Raymond J. Gardner, 72, of Hannibal, passed away on Tuesday September 27, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, after a courageous battle with a brief illness.

He was born on September 11, 1944, in Dudley, Mass., a son to the late Edward and Mildred Benoit Gardner.

Ray was raised in Springfield, Mass., and then moved to New York in the 1970s.

He loved fishing, bowling playing Scrabble and spending time with his family.

Ray was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and NASCAR, often watching it with his wife and grandson.

He was a member of the Port City Bassmasters as well as maintaining their website for several years.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy and Harold Gardner.

He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his wife of 49 years, Anne Gardner; two daughters, Kerry Savoy of Massachusetts and Janine Gardner of Florida; best friend and grandson, David Gardner of Oswego; great-grandson, Joseph Raymond Gardner; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Edward Gardner Jr. of Texas, Melvin Gardner of New Mexico, Jane Pistey of Massachusetts, Kenneth Gardner of Arizona, Maureen Nadeau of Massachusetts, Randolph Gardner of Massachusetts, Timothy Gardner of Connecticut and Shirley Cote of Connecticut; as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours or service.

  1. Now, resting, peacefully in heaven! It’s all ok dad,,, I’m ok, you’re ok, we are ok, everything is ok! I’ll see you again when it’s my time! Until then, I love you & will miss you dearly! Offering my continued prayers to Anne & Dave & all of the family!

  2. Whenever I see a dragonfly I think of our time at Sterling Nature Center and how many there were there, it was breathtaking!! And the herons at the rookery. (Or should I say “Hookery” as you used to call it!) When the Great Blue Heron flies over my lake back in Massachusetts, I will remember that great day! Love you big brother……
