he Oswego Fire Department will continue to provide ambulance service for Oswego Town through 2011. Two days after the Oswego Town Board accepted a proposal to reinstate ambulance service in the town, the Common Council voted unanimously Wednesday evening to authorize the mayor to execute a one-year agreement with the town.
The commissioners of the Oswego Town Fire District would like to address some of the possible concerns of our residents in light of recently published articles regarding the Town of Oswego ambulance service. First and foremost we want to assure the residents that the Town of Oswego Volunteer Fire Department will continue to provide our community with first response EMS service.
Oswego Town and the city of Oswego have differing views concerning the ambulance contract between the two municipalities. In a statement today (Dec. 23) to the media, the town board said the contract is intact through Dec. 31, 2012. However, the mayor points out the town supervisor sent a letter to the city giving official notification that they wanted to cancel the contract. He says it will expire Dec. 31, 2010.
The Oswego Common Council next week will consider a request for an ambulance at OHS varsity football games and budget transfers to cover overtime in the fire department and DPW. They will also approve creating a new city street and naming it after a long-time city employee.
Channel 3’s Jim Kenyon reports that the State Health Department is investigating a complaint involving the Oswego Fire Department’s ambulance service.
According to Kenyon’s report:
“Sources say that paramedics refused to transport a female patient to the hospital on Wednesday. The woman was forced to call a private ambulance service. When she arrived at the hospital, sources tell us she needed emergency treatment.”
The state Health Department confirmed to Channel 3 that it was investigating a complaint, but would not be more specific. […]
