Just two and a half months into the current school year, the Oswego board of education has decided to get a headstart on the coming academic year’s budget. On Tuesday, the board members weighed in on what they would like to budget to be.
The board of education used to meet every two weeks. But under the new system it will meet once each month with preliminary committee meetings conducted to set the agenda and to answer any questions board members may have. The Finance Committee meets at 3 p.m. and the Personnel Committee at 4 p.m. Tuesdays. The Curriculum Committee will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday; a set time for its meetings hasn’t been finalized.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education will meet twice during the week of Aug. 23.
One is an incumbent, one is a former board member and one is making his first bid for office.

The Oswego School Board Room was jammed packed Tuesday night with supporters of Leighton Elementary School. Many of them took the opportunity to voice their opposition to a plan that would close the west side school.
