Lots of local politicians have gotten their cars repaired over the years at Eddie Bellinger’s auto repair shop just north of Fulton — and gotten an earful from the owner about some issue. But Harry Wilson on Thursday became the first candidate for statewide office ever to tour Bellinger’s shop.
Benedetto said he is seeking the position because his combined and unique experience as a court referee, law clerk, prosecutor, law guardian and defense attorney make him extremely well-qualified for the challenges of the position.
Patty Ritchie, the County Clerk of St. Lawrence County, declared her candidacy for State Senate in the 48th District on Monday with stops in Fulton, Watertown and Canton. She intends to be the Republican party’s candidate to take on Democrat Aubertine, a former state Assemblyman who has won the Senate seat in two elections.
She’ll make her candidacy official at a 10:00 a.m. appearance at the Tavern on the Lock restaurant in Fulton, then make a noon stop in Watertown and a 5:30 p.m. stop in Canton.
Albany-area lawyer Warren Redlich will run for Governor of New York this year, seeking both the Libertarian and Republican endorsements.
Redlich becomes the first challenger to Rick Lazio, the Long Island Republican who is gathering support for his party’s nomination.

Rick Lazio entered the race for Governor of New York on Tuesday, promising to stay in the race even if Republican powerhouse Rudy Giuliani jumps in.
Lazio announced his candidacy at a series of press conferences across the state.

President Obama will be in Troy today for a speech at Hudson Valley Community College. Gov. David Paterson will be there, too, just one day after the New York Times reported that Obama’s political advisor took the unusual step of meeting with Paterson to ask him not to run for election next year.
