Proposed NYS Program Grant May Hurt Local Youth Bureau Programming

At Thursday’s meeting, the Oswego County Legislature will ask the state to reconsider instituting a program that would be detrimental to upstate youth. “Youth Bureau funding would be eliminated in many counties, which would promote inequities in prevention and positive youth development services across the state. It is economically not prudent to only support youth when they are at the doorstep of the child welfare and/or the juvenile justice system,” the director of the local Youth Bureau said.

The public will have the opportunity to air its opinion tonight during a public hearing on the Fulton city schoolÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s proposed $23.7 million capital project. The project — which encompasses improvements at all school district buildings for student safety, security upgrades, energy efficiency, technology, accessibility for disabled individuals, heating, food service and athletic facilities — is set to go before the voters in a referendum Dec. 12.
