Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County, Inc. is offering a new volunteer orientation for its fall season on Wednesday, August 11 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The session will be held in the Pathfinder Conference Room at 34 East Bridge Street, Suite 301, Oswego.
In order to maintain a solid reading level CER library specialist Molly Clark has instituted a summer reading program which kicked off with a school year-end ice cream social.
Former Frederick Leighton Elementary School teacher Norma Barnes returned to present the “4 Love of Reading†awards to fourth graders.

That’s the short version of a presentation on the reading program used in Hannibal’s elementary schools to raise reading scores. It was a key component of the successful effort to get Hannibal off the state’s “in need of improvement” list.
The annual Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to read with their parents or by themselves for at least 15 minutes each day during the months of July and August, while children are on summer vacation from school. If completed, children receive a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading certificate.
