School Districts Face Falling Off Stimulus ‘Cliff’

At least two local school districts — Fulton and Phoenix — rank in the top 3% of all districts in the state for receiving federal stimulus funds.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is that those stimulus funds aren’t permanent and the state’s top financial officer is warning districts to plan now for the money they won’t be getting in 2011.  We’ve got a handy table to show you what your district got, and how it ranks alongside other school districts.

Kenney Middle School Students Succeed

Kenney Middle School is proud to announce that during the 2008-09 school year, fourteen students in the eighth grade were enrolled in advanced classes in math and science. Twelve students were enrolled in Living Environment and fourteen students were enrolled in Algebra. One hundred percent of these students passed the Regents exams.

Schools & Unions Sue Gov. Over His Plan To Withhold Some Aid

Fulton School District Plans Process For Building Its Next Budget

The Fulton school district has set up its calendar for building its next budget.

A committee will create drafts of the budget, which Superintendent Bill Lynch will bring before the Board of Education for its review and comments. All school budgets in the state go before voters on May 18, 2010.

Gov. Paterson: State Is Out Of Money; He Withholds Payments to Local Governments, Schools

Gov. David Paterson, announcing in New York City over the weekend that he will keep state government solvent by delaying payments to local governments and schools.  Photo provided by the Governor's office.Gov. David Paterson Sunday made good his threat to share the pain of an unbalanced state budget.

He announced he will withhold $750 million in payments to school districts, local governments and social services agencies. Paterson said these were not cuts; the state is going to hold the money longer, to make sure it has cash on hand to pay its bills.

Fulton Schools Getting Lawyers Involved As Errors May Force Changes To Construction Project

The Fulton City School District is getting its lawyers involved to see if it can get back some of the money lost to errors in its district-wide construction project.

Superintendent Bill Lynch revealed this week that he has asked for legal opinions as members of the Board of Education expressed dissatisfaction with the cost of the mistakes and the problems those mistakes have caused.
