December 2009 Was Rather Average

The temperature and precipitation were both just about average last month. Total snowfall, however, was more than 5.5 inches below normal.



In December County Adopts Budget, Spares Transfer Station

The county’s $185,334,375 budget for 2010 doesn’t increase taxes and includes no raises for the legislators. Some legislators wanted to close the Hannibal Transfer Station as a money-saving “business decision.”

Seasonal flu clinics were under way in Oswego County in early fall. Additional clinics were scheduled for Swine Flu (H1N1) vaccination as the vaccine became available.

Jay John Barboni was found guilty of murder in connection with the death of 15-month-old Nicholas Taylor. Also in early August, Rosemary Nesbitt passed away peacefully with her family by her side.



In July Thousands Come To Harborfest

Rain showers do little to dampen the spirits at the annual summer festival. Also in July, a slaughterhouse plan is met with a lukewarm reception in the county. And, the Port City received the key to its historic lighthouse.



Harborfest Midway Stirs Debate In June

After much debate, the midway wound up in the First Ward in the Wright’s Landing Marina parking lot. Also in June, the new bishop of the seven-county Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse visited Oswego.



The Beleaguered Northeast Biofuels Found A New Owner In May

Sunoco submitted the winning bid of $8.5 million. Northeast Biofuels had never reached full production and declared bankruptcy in January. Also in May, voters OK’d the Oswego City School District budget and sent Fran Hoefer back to the school board.
