Coiunty Honors Tom Gurdziel

The Oswego County Legislature’s Community and Consumer Affairs Committee presented Thomas Gurdziel with a certificate of appreciation for his 10 years of service. Gurdziel is a records retention clerk at the Oswego County Records Center and Historian’s Office. Pictured from left are legislators James Karasek, District 22; John J. State Honors Oswego Hospital

The New York State Department of Health recently recognized Oswego Hospital with a Certificate of Excellence in recognition of its efforts to prevent perinatal transmission of the hepatitis B virus. Five years ago, Oswego Hospital was one of the first hospitals to offer the vaccine. Today, hospital staff administers vaccinations to more than 90 percent of newborns through federal funding. At hand to receive the award was Kim Hyde, RN, Clinical Manager of Oswego Hospital’s Maternity Center; Elmer Plantz, Neo-Natal Nurse Practitioner; Nancy Deavers, Oswego Hospital Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; Ann C. Gilpin, Oswego Health President and CEO; Dr. Dennis Norfleet, Oswego County Public Health Director; Erin Ciappa, RN, Oswego County Health Department; and Valerie Favata, Oswego Hospital Associate Administrator for Nursing.The New York State Department of Health recently recognized Oswego Hospital with a Certificate of Excellence in recognition of its efforts to prevent perinatal transmission of the hepatitis B virus.

Fulton Rotarians Hear History of Local Business

Don Ross, left, a retiree from  Armstrong (now Interface Solutions) was a recent guest at Fulton's Sunrise Rotary Club.  Don told about the long history of Interface beginning in 1860 as Armstrong Cork Co.  The Company was first  a Cork facility, then went into Linoleum and in the 1980's became a Gasket facility.   Shortly after that, the company became known as Interface Solutions.    Pictured with Ross is his wife, Mary Ellen,  and Rotarian Ed Garrow. Phoenix Community Creates Special Flag

You could say it was a hands-on experience as dozens of people helped make a 12’ x 15’ American Flag. The red stripes for the flag were made of handprints from Phoenix residents and other volunteers – young and old.

Versatile Indie Artist Owen to Play SUNY Oswego

Owen will appear in concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at SUNY Oswego's Sheldon Hall ballroom, as part of the college's Indie Series. Owen, a singer, songwriter and self-recording artist, is the professional pseudonym for Chicago's Mike Kinsella, who has a wife, baby and dog, helping account for the title of his latest full-length album, "New Leaves."Singer, songwriter and self-recording artist Owen will perform Friday, Dec. 3, at SUNY Oswego in the latest Indie Series offering.

SUNY Oswego Art Degree Candidates to Display Their Work

Tian Chen, a SUNY Oswego master of arts candidate, designed the poster for the M.A. students' portion of an exhibit to run Dec. 3 to 15 in Tyler Art Gallery. Three M.A. candidates will show their work in the south gallery, while 13 bachelor of fine arts degree candidates will exhibit in the north. Chen, who wants to work in graphics for packaging, also designed the music-player graphic on the wall.Degree candidates will showcase their work at SUNY Oswego’s Fall Master of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibitions, including the digital art of a Chinese student who wants to work in food packaging.
