For the 63rd consecutive season, Oswego Speedway will open its gates for racing at the lake side facility known as the ‘Steel Palace.’ The night’s racing, which will feature round one of the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries as well as the Pathfinder Bank SBS division, will be presented by Gater Racing News and North Country Home Builders.

Cause of late-night Monday fire under investigation

UPDATE: Tentative cause said to be heat generated from a torch or similar device while contractors were performing work on the front porch roof earlier in the evening.

There were no injuries reported in the fire late Monday at 85 E. Utica St., according to Jeff McCrobie, fire chief. The fire was noticed by one of the occupants of the home and reported at 10:49 p.m.

Car Seat Safety Check Event Held

Law enforcement and EMS teamed up for a successful car seat safety check recently in Oswego at Menter Ambulance.

Area Girl Scouts Earn the Highest Awards in Girl Scouting

Area Girl Scouts will be recognized at four ceremonies throughout the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, for earning the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards. Ceremonies will take place on May 20 in Seneca Falls, May 21 in Elmira, May 28 in Oswego and May 29 in Utica.

Alyson Bruns and Tatum Winchek of the Charles E. Riley Elementary School had their artwork displayed at the New York State Art Teachers Association 2013 Legislative Student Art Exhibit at the Legislative Office Building in Albany.

Lions Plan River’s Edge Craft Show

The Oswego Lions Club will host the second annual River’s Edge “handmade” Craft Show on June 9. The event will take place on West Liner Park, right on the river’s edge, in Oswego. Hours for the show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lake Cleanup Project receives boost from Senator Ritchie

At the recent Common Council meeting, it was announced that Senator Patty Ritchie was able to obtain $200,000 to put towards the Lake Neatahwanta cleanup effort. The money will be split evenly between the city of Fulton and town of Granby. Once the lake is clean, the goal is for families to use it again.

County Health Department Will Hold Rabies Clinic in Pulaski May 8

The Oswego County Health Department holds a rabies clinic for dogs, cats and pet ferrets from 6 to 8 p.m. May 8 at the Oswego County Highway Garage on county Route 2A in Pulaski. New York State law requires that all dogs, cats and pet ferrets be vaccinated against rabies.
