Shari Lynn Calkins, 52, of Phoenix, passed away on Thursday October 16, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, Syracuse.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, is now accepting registrations for “Six Steps to Better Balance,” an approach to Better Balance developed by Betty Perkins-Carpenter, Ph.D., Senior Fitness Productions. Overnight rain that has continued into Saturday has forced Fulton Speedway management to cancel the Saturday, October 18th ‘Eve Of Destruction IV’. The event won’t be rescheduled this season. A suitable date for 2015 will be discussed during the winter months.
On Saturday, October 18, beginning at 7 a.m., George Street between East Seneca Street and State Route 104 will be closed to through traffic for an area construction project. The closure is only planned to last one day and regular traffic patterns are anticipated to resume

Debra A. Emal, 61, a former resident of Oswego and a resident of Fraser, Colorado for the past 30 years, died Friday October 10, 2014, as the result of an automobile accident.
As part of a lesson to learn the different families of musical instruments, fifth and sixth grade students were asked to create an instrument that had at least two different pitches. The results were overwhelming, as nearly 200 students created a variety of ideas for the project.
