Folks visiting the annual Oswego Harborfest celebration enjoy the food, music, fireworks, but aren’t necessarily aware of what it took to stage one of the largest admission free festivals in the nation. Executive Director Doug Buske said, “It takes a substantial number of people who possess a wide range of life experiences to organize and stage the annual event.”
Several new faces will appear on stage in the Frances Marion Brown Theater at the Arts Center in Oswego as the Oswego Players, Inc. open its 77th season with Neil Simon’s female version of “The Odd Couple.” The play is being directed by Troy Pepper.
At Tuesday night’s Physical Services Committee, nearly a dozen people spoke out against a local businessman’s request for a variance or permit to operate outside of the decibel limits set forth in the Noise Ordinance, in order to have live music at his open air establishment Thursday through Saturday from May – September.
William D. “Billy” Barbeau, 63, a resident of Oswego, passed away Tuesday January 20, 2015, at Oswego Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle.
The city of Oswego has been awarded a $225,000 grant by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Cleaner, Greener Communities initiative, to develop a Complete Streets Plan along Route 104, the city’s main corridor, that will seek to encourage more bicycling and an enhanced walking experience. Mayor Tom Gillen and Planning and Zoning Director, Amy Birdsall, championed the grant application. The project will be facilitated through the City’s Planning and Zoning Department and a planning consulting firm will be retained in 2015 to prepare the plan.
Marla M. Miller-Castaldo, 60, a resident of Niagara Street, Oswego, passed away Sunday January 18, 2015.
Alma K. Daley, 94, of Oswego, passed away Tuesday January 20, 2015, at St. Luke Health Services.
Eleanor M. Boyzuick, 88, a lifelong resident of Oswego, passed away on Monday January 19, 2015, at Oswego Hospital.
UPDATE: The structure is a total loss and is considered unsafe at this time. Fire officials expect that demolition will take place as soon as possible. Four hydrants at the scene were reportedly frozen. Oswego City Firefighters battled the blaze at 37 Murray St.
Nancy M. Coulter, 87, of Fulton and formerly of Texas, passed away Monday January 19, 2015.
