Blessing of the Animals Set September 25
The First United Church of Fulton will have a Blessing of the Animals service on September 25 at 1:30 p.m. The service will be held in the church parking lot.
New Infrastructure Programs Implemented in New York
One of the biggest legislative challenges in Albany is to make sure that there is parity in state spending between Upstate and Downstate New York. This is particularly challenging when it comes to transportation spending. Downstate New York relies on mass transit for its transportation needs, while in Upstate, we are much more reliant on our cars for our transportation needs. Accordingly, the needs of each region tend to be very different.
OCO Health Services Hits the Road with Mobile HIV Testing Van
In a direct response to Governor Cuomo’s plan to end the HIV epidemic in New York State, the NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute has awarded Oswego County Opportunities a grant to begin a mobile HIV testing initiative in Oswego County. The grant is one of only three that were awarded in the Upstate area and is the only one that serves such a rural community as Oswego County.

Oswego County Health Department Flu Clinics Begin Sept. 26
The Oswego County Health Department will offer influenza clinics for adults age 19 and older weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. beginning Sept. 26 at the Nick Sterio Public Health Clinic, 70 Bunner St., Oswego. No appointment is needed; walk-ins are welcome.
Phoenix Hosts Locktoberfest Festival Oct. 1
The event is one in a series of community festivals celebrating the fall harvest season along the state canal system and is sponsored by the village of Phoenix, Phoenix Rising, Taste NY, the New York State Canal Corp., I Love New York, and the state Department of Agriculture and Markets.
Excitement Building for Scrabble Fest
With the 10th Annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest just days away excitement is building for one of the area’s most anticipated fundraisers. A benefit for Oswego County Opportunities Literacy Volunteers, the fest takes place on September 22 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the Oswego Elks Lodge, 312 W, Fifth St.
Youth Bureau Accepts Reservations for Camp Hollis and Camp Zerbe Facilities
Camp Hollis, in the town of Oswego, and the Oswego County Nature Park at Camp Zerbe, in Williamstown, are owned by Oswego County and operated by the Youth Bureau. The facilities are available May through October for use by families, wedding parties, youth groups, clubs, school groups and other organizations.
Oswego County Health Department Holds Rabies Clinic Oct. 5 in Pulaski
Rabies continues to be a threat across Oswego County, and the Oswego County Health Department reminds residents that it will hold two more rabies clinics this fall. Clinics will be Oct. 5, at the County Highway Garage, Pulaski, and Nov. 2, at the County Highway Garage, Scriba.
