The Fulbright Scholar program has awarded Christopher Harris of the SUNY Oswego computer science faculty an opportunity to travel to Finland this August for nearly a year to explore cross-cultural user experience and user design, plus a variety of other research and teaching interests in human-computer interaction and business.

The Hannibal Senior High Instrumental Music Department will present a concert celebrating Music in Our Schools Month on March 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school’s Lockwood Auditorium. The National Association for Music Education the month of March as a time to recognize the impact music has within our schools.

It will be held at the Polish Home, 153 W. First St., Fulton, from noon until 6 p.m. The event will feature The Flyin’ Column Irish show band, the Kinlough and Butler Irish dancers, raffles and corned beef and ham dinners. The event is sponsored by the Fulton Ancient Order of Hibernians. Admission is $3.

Oswego County Legislators presented the Malone family a plaque in honor of the late Buildings and Grounds Superintendent William Malone at the March 12 meeting. Malone, who worked for the Buildings and Grounds Department more than 25 years, passed away Dec. 19, 2014.

Hannibal fourth graders will never forget their learning of colonial history as they lived through the experience themselves at Ole Fashion Day. Students dressed as Native Americans, colonial soldiers, established Englishmen, farmers and more, living out historical past times like barn square dancing and tea parties in the tea room.

On April 26, service providers and organizations will gather to provide information to the community about substance abuse, addiction, mental illness/suicide, prevention, treatment and healthy options. In addition to table presentations, exhibitors will speak about their specific services.

Planning to breastfeed or currently breastfeeding? Mother-to-mother support is the heart of La Leche League. No book on breastfeeding can equal talking to experienced nursing mothers and seeing their happy babies.

The annual event brings in organizations like the United Friends of Homeless Animals, the Child Advocacy Center, the Kallet Theater, Oswego County Opportunities and so many more who each host their own entertaining and informational booths for the students.

Scores were high, and close, at the third and fourth grade Fairley Elementary Battle of the Books. Five teams competed in two eight-question rounds, scoring four points for every correct book title and eight points for every correct title and author.
