One of the area’s most anticipated and largest golf tournaments, the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Annual Golf Classic is looking to be bigger and better than ever this year. Scheduled for July 14, the United Way Annual Golf Classic will be held at one of Central New York’s finest private golf courses, the Oswego County Club.

Seventy years ago, Fort Ontario in Oswego opened its doors to refugees of the Nazi Holocaust during World War II. Nearly 1,000 people were welcomed and sheltered in the only site of its kind in the U.S.
Representatives from the NYS Bureau of Historic Sites recently installed a new exhibit commemorating this unique heritage.

Parents of Special Children, Inc. presents its annual Jamboree Chicken BBQ fundraiser, which will be held on May 18, from noon until 4 p.m. at the Hannibal American Legion. Oswego County residents can get rid of old tires at the county solid waste transfer stations between 8 a.m. and noon May 17 and June 14. These days have been designated as Tire Amnesty Days in Oswego County to allow residents to safely dispose of unwanted tires and reduce mosquito-breeding habitats. The $5 per tire disposal fee will be waived.

Residents at Morningstar Residential Care Center filled the community room recently for their first Sit and Be Fit exercise class. Lively music and a variety of chair exercises kept feet tapping and hands moving as the residents followed an exercise regime that was both challenging and fun.

This year, Fulton Savings Bank will sponsor The Chris Taylor Band on the Community Center stage on May 24 starting at 7 p.m. The band is Central New York’s premier Top 40 county music band.
