The Senegal St. Joseph Choir will offer an evening of life-affirming global music at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 103 W. 7th St. in Oswego, as part of SUNY Oswego’s Artswego Performing Arts Series. The concert, one of six 2014-15 programs presented in alternate campus and community locations during the renovation of Tyler Hall, will feature a repertoire ranging from familiar spirituals to traditional African songs.

SUNY Oswego student printmakers will display their circular- and square-format monotypes and monoprints starting Oct. 10, at Tyler Art Gallery at Oswego State Downtown. “Circles and Squares: One-of-a-Kind Prints” will feature a free public artists’ reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24, at the downtown gallery and branch of the College Store at the corner of West First and Bridge streets in Oswego. The exhibition will run through Nov. 15.

Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge will improvise on their vintage guitars as they try to surprise a Sheldon Hall ballroom audience in a performance at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6, at SUNY Oswego. With the help of Lage’s and Eldridge’s 1939 Martin guitars, the musicians will explore a world of “spontaneous composition” in the free public performance presented by the SUNY Oswego music department.

Actor and director Milton Loayza of SUNY Oswego’s modern languages and literatures faculty will join forces with video/lighting designer Barry Steele to bring to life the stories of influential Argentine writer Julio Cortázar in a performance at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom. In “Don’t Blame Anyone” — the presentation shares the title of one of Cortázar’s short stories — Loayza and Steele will work together to show the audience Cortázar tales that Time Magazine says “can induce the kind of chilling unease that strikes like a sound in the night.”
